What Happens on the Free Orientation Call

Day 0 of The 7-Day Seed is just a conversation: your giving, your year, and whether a DAF fits.

Before any application, before any forms, before anyone says the words "fund name," there is a conversation. We call it Day 0. It is a free orientation call, and it is mostly us listening.

People sometimes come to it braced for a pitch. That is fair. A lot of the money world works that way. So here is exactly what happens on the call, what happens after it, and what it costs, so you can decide whether it is worth an hour of your week.

What We Talk About

The call covers three things, in roughly this order.

  1. Your Giving Today

Who you give to now, and how it usually happens: checks, an app, a monthly draft, a gift when a need comes up.

  2. Your Year

Anything unusual, like a sale, a strong year, a new baby or a loss, or a life change that has you thinking.

  3. Whether It Fits

A donor-advised fund is not right for everyone. If it is not right for you, we will say so.

The Honest Fit Check

That third step is the one we take most seriously. A DAF is a good tool for a lot of families, but not every family. If your giving is mostly spontaneous, small, and from the heart in the moment, you may not need one at all. If you never itemize and have no appreciated assets to give, the tax side may not change for you, and we will tell you that plainly.

Sometimes the honest answer is "not yet." Sometimes it is "a private foundation may fit better, and that is attorney work." Sometimes it is "keep doing what you are doing." When we can, we point you somewhere better.

If It Fits, Your Seven Days Start That Day

If a DAF fits your family, The 7-Day Seed starts the same day. Over seven guided days, we walk through:

  • Your giving vision, in your own words.
  • Donor-advised fund or private foundation, in plain language.
  • Choosing a sponsor, and your question list for your CPA.
  • Naming your fund and your successor donor-advisors, then walking the application together.
  • Your first-gift plan, your charity shortlist, and your first grants.

There is a short check-in each day so nothing stalls. The goal is a submitted application by day seven. Approval and timing are up to the sponsor and vary.

Questions People Often Ask Us

A few questions come up on almost every call, so here are the short answers.

  • Do I need a certain amount to start? Minimums vary by sponsor. Some are modest, and we talk through what fits.
  • Will you tell me where to give? No. Your fund, your vision, your recommendations. We help you build a shortlist that reflects your own heart.
  • Do I have to decide on the call? No. If it fits, you can start that day or later. Nothing is signed on the call.
  • What about my CPA? We help you build a clear question list. Your CPA gives the tax answers, because only your full return shows what applies to you.

If a question needs an attorney or a CPA instead of us, we say so. That is not a brush-off. It is us staying in our lane so you get the right answer from the right person.

What It Costs, Plainly

The orientation call and the seven days are free. No purchase required. We do offer paid coaching, and only go into it with people who raise their hand.

We recommend two sponsors, and we gladly work with one you already use. Kingdom Portfolios has been approved for its own accounts with both sponsors we recommend, and receives no compensation from any sponsor.

We are not a DAF sponsor. We never hold or touch the money. Your gifts go straight to the sponsor you choose, and your fund lives there.

Come as You Are

You do not need to prepare anything. You do not need to know the jargon. If you are married, bring your spouse, because giving decisions go better when both people are in the room. Bring your questions, even the ones that feel basic. Bring your calendar, because if it fits, the next step is picking your days.

Come as you are. Bring your questions, your spouse, and your calendar.

Day 0 is about listening first. If you have been giving for years without a plan, that is not something to apologize for. Most faithful givers start exactly there. And if you have a plan already and just want a second set of eyes on it, that is a good call too.

You can request your call on The 7-Day Seed page. Pick a time that works for both of you, and come with whatever is on your heart. The rest we can figure out together.

The Short Version
  • Day 0 is a conversation about your giving today, your year, and whether a DAF fits.
  • If it does not fit, we say so, and point you somewhere better when we can.
  • If it fits, seven guided days start that day, aiming for a submitted application.
  • We are not a sponsor, never hold the money, and take no sponsor compensation.
