Kingdom Seed Foundation: Walking the Path in Real Time
Our founder is setting up a proposed donor-advised fund, one step at a time. Shared as an example only.
We believe in walking the path we teach, so our founder is walking it now, in real time. Kingdom Seed Foundation is a proposed donor-advised fund at The Signatry, a faith-based DAF sponsor. The application went in on September 22, 2026. It took one afternoon. It has not been approved yet. Once it is, our founder will serve as its donor-advisor.
Disclosure first: we share this story only as an example. Kingdom Seed Foundation is not a place we ask anyone to give, and giving to it is never part of our services. When you work with us, you open your own fund, under the name of your choosing, at the sponsor you choose. Our founder has a pending account relationship with The Signatry, which we disclose because you may be comparing sponsors. Kingdom Portfolios receives no compensation, referral fees, or revenue share from any DAF sponsor or charity, and has no agreement with any.
Step 1: The Vision
The path starts with a question, not a form: what is this fund for? Our founder began by drafting a giving vision and a handful of focus areas. From those notes came a draft mission statement to guide future grant recommendations.
This step is the one most people want to skip, and the one we always return to first. A clear vision makes every later decision easier.
Step 2: The Vehicle and the Sponsor
Next came the choice of vehicle: a donor-advised fund or a private foundation. For giving to churches and ministries, with simplicity and privacy in mind, a donor-advised fund fit.
Then came the sponsor. Faith-based sponsors differ on mission fit, grant policies, minimums, fees, investment options, and how they handle churches and ministries. The Signatry was our founder’s choice. That is one family’s choice, not a recommendation for yours.
Step 3: The Name and the Application
A donor-advised fund can carry the name of your choosing, and choosing it is a meaningful moment. Our founder chose Kingdom Seed Foundation and registered the domain seedthekingdom.org. With the name settled, the application itself was the simple part, and it is now with the sponsor for review.
What Comes Next
Nothing below has happened yet. These are the planned next steps, and we will share them as they unfold.
- Approval. The sponsor reviews the application and decides whether to open the fund.
- A welcome call with the sponsor, to learn how gifts are received, how receipts are issued, and how grant recommendations work.
- Choosing among the sponsor’s investment pool options for the balance.
- The first gift, sent directly from the giver to the fund at the sponsor. The founder and Kingdom Portfolios LLC may each give to the fund. Kingdom Portfolios never touches any client’s charitable dollars.
- Before that gift, a question for the CPA: cash, or appreciated assets held more than a year? We encourage every family to bring that question to their CPA, because the answer can change how far a gift goes.
- A giving rhythm: a short list of ministries to vet, a simple giving calendar, and a plan for the first grant recommendation.
What We Are Learning So Far
- The paperwork is the easy part. The vision takes the most thought, and it is worth it.
- Choosing a sponsor is about fit and trust more than tax, because the core tax rules are the same at every qualifying sponsor.
- Honesty about cost matters. Giving always costs more than it saves. The tax rules help generosity go further; they do not make it free.
Your fund will look different, because your calling is different. The steps are the same.
