What Is TradeLocker? A Plain-English Guide

May 29, 2026 · 3 min read

TradeLocker is a browser-first trading platform for retail forex, CFD, and crypto markets. It launched in March 2023 and built its reputation on one idea: put TradingView's charts directly inside the trade ticket, so you can analyze a setup and place the order in the same window instead of bouncing between two apps.

It runs in a web browser and on iOS and Android, with no heavy desktop install required. That alone makes it feel different from the older platforms many traders grew up on.

The defining feature: charts and execution in one window

The thing people notice first about TradeLocker is that the charting and the order ticket are not separate worlds. The platform integrates TradingView's charting engine, so the tools you might already know from TradingView — the drawing tools, the indicators, the timeframes — sit right next to the buttons that open and close a position.

A quick but important clarification: TradeLocker integrates TradingView charts, but it is not owned by TradingView. They are separate companies. TradeLocker licenses the charting layer; the platform itself is its own product. If you want a primer on how charts work before you read a live one, our candlesticks explainer is a good starting point.

Risk-first tooling

TradeLocker leans hard into risk management. It includes a built-in risk calculator and native stop-loss and take-profit controls on the ticket, so sizing a trade by a fixed dollar or percentage risk is part of the normal workflow rather than something you bolt on. We think that posture matters — it is the same one we teach in risk-first trading, where the loss is defined before the entry.

TradeLocker Studio and automation

TradeLocker Studio is the platform's automation corner. It lets you build and backtest strategies with a no-code interface or AI-assisted tools — useful if you want to test an idea without writing code.

One thing to be clear about, because it trips people up: TradeLocker does not run MetaTrader Expert Advisors. If you have an .mq4 or .mq5 bot written for MetaTrader, it will not work here. Studio is its own environment, not a MetaTrader emulator.

How you actually get a TradeLocker login

This is the part newcomers miss. You do not sign up at TradeLocker directly the way you would create a TradingView account. TradeLocker is distributed through brokers and prop firms — your login is issued by whichever broker or funded-trading firm you join, and they decide which instruments and account types you see. The platform reports support for 500+ instruments, but the exact list depends on the company that gave you the account. If you are still sorting out the difference between those two kinds of company, see prop firm vs broker and our overview of brokers and platforms.

The honest friction

No platform is all upside. The most common complaint about TradeLocker is clunky multi-account switching — if you run several accounts (common for prop traders juggling challenges), hopping between them is not as smooth as some people want. Worth knowing before you build a workflow around it.

To put TradeLocker in context next to the other platforms you'll hear about, we compare it to MetaTrader in TradeLocker vs MetaTrader 5, and map the whole landscape in the platform map.

Common Questions

Is TradeLocker free to use?

You do not pay TradeLocker directly. Access comes through a broker or prop firm that has adopted the platform, and their terms — fees, spreads, account costs — are what apply. Because that distribution model changes often, verify current availability and any costs on your broker or firm's own site. Education only.

Can I run my MetaTrader EA on TradeLocker?

No. TradeLocker does not run MetaTrader Expert Advisors (.mq4 or .mq5 files). Its automation lives in TradeLocker Studio, a separate no-code and AI-assisted environment. If your strategy depends on a MetaTrader EA, you would need a MetaTrader platform instead.
